Access the Madu Lagoon by strolling from your bedroom to the foot of our manicured gardens; there, you’ll have the opportunity to partake in various water sports, including renting a jet ski. Feel at liberty to explore the mangrove forests and breathtaking surroundings in your own time. Just ask at reception and we’ll arrange everything.

Pristine golden beaches and stunning sea views are all yours. Bentota No 1 is surrounded by water and water sports! Whether you would like to take your first windsurfing course, go for a banana boat ride, water skiing or jet skiing, or wakeboarding, anything is possible right outside our doorstep. Trained instructors are available on request.

Explore 12th century temples and a 2500-year-old Stupa (also called Dagoba) which is considered an architectural wonder influenced by Buddhism. Make a trip towards Ambalnagoda (49 minutes away from Bentota by car) and marvel at the longest sleeping Buddha statue considered the largest in South Asia at the Galigoda Shailathalaramaya Vihara.

Turtles

Bentota Beach is teaming with sea life and Turtles make their journey to nest, laying of eggs at night between the months of October and April. Witness majestic turtles in their natural habitat at the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Project

Diving

Bentota is a popular diving stop where you can witness vibrant corals and large schools of fish around Canoe Rock, South Reef and Hundirangala: tours are arranged for tourists in the Bentota area and a minimum of two guests are required to proceed with these tours.

Guided boat tours are a must! It’s the best way to explore the dense mangroves adorning the banks of the majestic Madu River. With over 110 species of birds, 70 species of fish, 50 species of butterflies and 30 species of reptiles, discovering the rich biodiversity of Sri Lanka’s third largest river is an unforgettable experience.

Try to spot all the animals or simply lay back and enjoy the peaceful serenity of nature. The captain of the boat is at your command; whether you’d like to visit the cinnamon islands around the lagoon or indulge in a fish-foot massage, the choice is yours. All boat trips will collect you directly from our private dock at the villa and return you safely home after.
